Sennen is hiring a full-stack engineer to help develop our global offshore wind farm and renewable energy management web applications and developer tools.

Our vision is to transform infrastructure through technology, for a more sustainable world. Our mission is to become the go-to technology provider for renewable energy operators who are serious about safety, automation and efficiency at scale.

Sennen underpins the UK's largest offshore wind farm. We're preparing for our largest solution to date, a multi-site five year partnership with EDF Renewables. In addition to our ongoing solutions for clients including London Array and Foresight, we have a healthy pipeline of new prospects and ambitious growth plans.

Our products process IoT data in real time from operating wind turbines and present informative workflows, tables, graphics, reporting, data visualisations - along with auditable maintenance and HSE compliance management - used by fund managers, financiers, technicians, control room operators and engineers around the world.

We build our software as reusable components for efficiency. The front-end is handled through Sennen’s own React-based dashboard framework, linking these through to the database structures. Our evolving tech stack is currently Node.js, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, and hosted in AWS.

We offer as much autonomy as you're ready for. It's a flat structure team and agile approach in a fast-moving company with a supportive culture.

What you’ll be doing

  • A rich variety of projects, from developing scheduled jobs which process large quantities of IoT data through to business level APIs and rich, interactive user interfaces.
  • And/or, optionally, focusing on front-end aspects - interactive data-intensive dashboards, visualisations and applications - delivering the experiences that our users will love, working closely with our product designer who will lead on UX and UI design
  • Deliver entire new modules to our clients, based on our ideas and designs, using new and existing framework components
  • Maintain, enhance and bug-fix our suite of in-house components, libraries and services
  • Work with peers to develop the best solutions and user experiences for our customers
  • Longer term, you could take ownership of entire parts of the system, having other developers work with you when implementing new features

We're looking for

  • Solid JavaScript - Node.js and TypeScript - plus React if you focus on the front-end
  • Experience writing HTTP/JSON APIs and Node.js/Express services
  • Familiarity with SQL/databases desirable but not essential
  • Ability to write concise, robust and readable code
  • Good coding practices including testing and peer code reviews
  • A collaborative approach, comfortable working with users and stakeholders with diverse perspectives and needs
  • You may also bring - or like to gain - skills in functional programming in JavaScript, e.g. Ramda
  • Exposure to agile working practices

Current ecosystem - we'll welcome your influence

Node.js | TypeScript | React | Redux | Ramda | Chai | Webpack | PostgreSQL | TimescaleDB | Kubernetes | AWS

Salary and benefits

  • c.£40,000 - £60,000 we're keeping an open mind
  • 25 days holiday, plus public holidays
  • Share incentive scheme
  • Optional four day week | flexible hours | optional remote working
  • A chance to be part of an exciting start-up, set for rapid growth which treats its employees as grown-ups
  • We're reviewing our benefits package with personal development, well-being and health in mind
