YellowDog is hiring a front-end engineer to help implement front-end solutions, workflows and data visualisations for our cloud native workload management and intelligent provisioning platform.
We're a small and expanding software development team building a unique cloud orchestration solution. We can help you get to grips with our tech, the domain and the use cases. We're really busy, with a healthy pipeline of new integrations to fulfil plus exciting roadmap plans, meaning lots of interesting and varied new coding work.
We can allocate projects that build upon your strengths, with mentoring and structure as you progress. The visual assets are already designed, and we've recently upgraded to Vue 3 (which you may learn within the role), so the initial focus is around UI layout and implementation, before progressing to more challenging front-end scenarios - optionally more focused on design, if this appeals.
It's a fairly flat team structure and we employ an iterative, lightweight design process where everyone on the team gets to make input. We're Agile and manage our work using a gentle Kanban process with regular stand-ups and we encourage a lightweight, productive approach to development.

What you'll be working on
- Front-end solutions that span global compute coordination, resource scheduling, data management, adaptive data transfer, analytics, billing, access control etc.
- Workflows for common abstraction to different cloud providers, optimised to best practice for each cloud provider
- Supporting integrations with a rich ecosystem of tools and adjacent systems
- Using our new compute platform to upgrade our large-scale CGI rendering application
- Developing intelligent predictive scheduling and resource management based on heuristics and machine learning
- Helping improve front-end cohesiveness across all products, automation, testing and tooling
We're looking for
- Someone with a grounding in front-end development, now exploring new challenges
- The ability to understand cloud infrastructure concepts, instances, storage, networks etc. You won’t be managing these elements but you will be building interfaces to enable users to do so via our services
- Highly proficient JavaScript and its modern ES6+ syntax and features
- Familiarity with a modern JS framework; we're working with Vue.js, and Vue CLI, Vuex, Vue Router - which you may learn within the role
- Good understanding of HTML5 and CSS3, including SASS
- Familiarity with automated JavaScript testing (we use Cypress.io)
- Ability to write efficient, secure, well-documented, and clean code
- Proficiency with modern development tools, such as Vite, Git, and CI
- Experience in consuming RESTful APIs and developing data-driven interfaces
- An appreciation for UI layout and understanding of web application usability/UX
- Readiness to learn and apply data visualisation frameworks (we use D3.js)
