Software Engineering Manager (central Bristol) TL208

Cray has a new opening for a Software Engineering Manager to manage, lead and grow its OpenStack Systems Management Team.

We are currently designing our next generation of supercomputers which will power research into climate change, life sciences, renewable energy and other critical areas. We’re also bringing our supercomputer and very large cluster expertise to bear on the most important analytics, machine learning and deep learning problems.

We are creating a new OpenStack-based system management infrastructure to be used across of our product lines, making them easier to use, more efficient and more reliable.

Our growing Bristol team is the centre of OpenStack engineering at Cray, carrying out pioneering work that advances modules such as Ironic, Neutron, Nova, Kolla, Heat, Cinder, Swift, Fuel and Glance, and which we contribute back to the open source community.

We are seeking outstanding leadership skills and a strong technical background, from someone who can lead this capable team and deliver highly effective software to our customers.

Skills and experience required
  • Proven line management experience, including utilising geographically distributed resources
  • Knowledge of full SDLC and modern best practice, with demonstrated success delivering large projects and shipping product-quality software
  • Familiar with working with open source projects and community
  • Knowledge of systems management on Linux / GNU / Unix systems
  • In-depth experience developing and deploying cloud technologies such as containerization, virtualization, software defined networks, clustering, storage, file systems etc.
  • Knowledge of OpenStack development or integration an advantage
  • Results-oriented, product-focused with excellent attention to detail and quality
  • Bright, creative, analytical and dedicated to building a culture of teamwork with a focus on meeting customer needs
  • BS or advanced degree in Computer Science (or equivalent knowledge)

Salary and benefits

  • £70,000 – £100,000+ negotiable
